In Communities

While visiting Pond Inlet, Sharon really appreciated the friendly greetings and help she received from everyone she met. Thank you to all the children, youth and community members who visited the information table at the Co-op store and all of the youth who participated in the Raise Your Voice: Self-Advocacy Workshop at the high school.

Arriving just as the school day ended, David received a very excited welcome from the students in the community. With the support of school staff, David organised two successful Raise Your Voice: Self-Advocacy Workshop. Thank you to everyone who attended the workshops. We really appreciated your enthusiastic participation!

Lori and Christa enjoyed their busy days in Cambridge Bay meeting with service providers and youth, and hosting the Raise your Voice: Self Advocacy Workshop. We would like to thank Kitikmeot Inuit Association for allowing us to run our workshop in their spacious board room!
Smiling, friendly faces greeted Lynn at many child and youth serving locations in Chesterfield Inlet, including the school, health centre, Naja Isabelle Home, hamlet, and RCMP.
Christa really enjoyed her time in Clyde River meeting with service providers and the Ilisaqsivik Society. It was berry season during Christa’s visit and she was fortunate to be given a bag of delicious blackberries and blueberries.
This was David’s first solo community visit as an Intern. The visit occurred during a cold snap which meant there weren’t many children around outside. However, everyone David did meet was curious about the work of the RCYO.
Colby was greeted at the schools with open arms by staff that he has worked closely with since his last visit. The relationships formed in Kugluktuk have allowed our office and those working in the community to advocate for many children and youth here.
Impressive display of children’s rights and responsibilities at the Quqshuun Ilihakvik Elementary School in Gjoa Haven!
The RCYO was happy to see that the mobile classrooms were up and running when we ran self-advocacy workshops for Cape Dorset high school students in September 2017.
A view of the floe edge from Hall Beach. With school over for the summer, many community members were out on the land enjoying the Arctic spring
