RCY’s Office Visits Sanikiluaq

RCY’s Office Visits Sanikiluaq

During the week of January 15 – 19, 2017, Nancy Pellerin, one of our senior systemic investigators visited the community of Sanikiluaq. During the visit Nancy had an opportunity to spend time with students and staff at Nuiyak Elementary School. She also met with some of our territory’s future teachers; students enrolled in the Nunavut Teachers Education Program as well as other students attending Nunavut Arctic College.

Even though Paatsaali School students were busy writing exams, Nancy was able to connect with them and start an important discussion about child rights and our office. Nancy also met with daycare staff, government service providers, hamlet staff and said she gained a lot of insight from meeting with one of the community’s Elders.

During the evening, Nancy was able to watch and play badminton with some of the best players in Nunavut. These young players were very talented and committed to their sport and Nancy said it was a lot of fun to see them practice. She looks forward to seeing some of them in Iqaluit during upcoming badminton tournaments!
