During the week of March 6-10, 2017, two of our Child and Youth Advocacy Specialists, David Korgak and Christa Kunuk from the Representative for Children and Youth’s Office (RCYO) visited the community of Pond Inlet. During their visit, David had the chance to meet with the students of the Ulaajuk Elementary School and Nasivvik High School to raise awareness about children and youth’s rights. Christa and David also enjoyed participating in a local community radio show in which talked about the roles and responsibilities of the RCYO, shared some information about their community visit and responded to questions from the community members. Both advocacy specialists have also met with the Member of the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut, Joe Enook and key community service providers, including nurses, mental health nurses, social workers, a probation officer and, youth committee members.
Christa and David are thankful for the warm welcoming from the community members and are already looking forward to their next visit!
