The Representative for Children and Youth Act allows our office to review the critical injuries or deaths of children in Nunavut.
These reviews are not about placing blame. They are opportunities to understand what may have gone wrong. They can also produce recommendations to prevent similar events in the future. These reviews can also provide families answers to lingering questions they might have.
We are mindful that such reviews are highly sensitive. They require the proper knowledge and capacity to carry out properly. For these reasons, we are currently developing this area of our work with particular care. We will post more information here once this work begins.
